Lilypie 3rd Birthday Ticker

Sicky-Poo, Veggies, and Teething Too

Well, Dad and Emily got sick, and we’re keeping our fingers crossed that everyone else is spared. For Dad, he was struck with a 24 hour fever. He returned to work, but then was stuck with a second wave of a fever, this time accompanied with severe congestion. Emily got hit with the same. We’re hoping the worst is over.

Over the last few weeks we’ve moved from straight formula feeding to introducing rice and oatmeal cereal. That has helped dampen their appetites, so they do not have to feed quite so much. Today Mom introduced vegetables - peas - and both girls loved them! Let’s see if the same is true for spinach!

Another first today - Mom determined that Isabel is starting to teethe! She’s been more irritable and has been drooling more, but today Mom could feel some razor-sharp niblet working its way out.

I will post some pics of Easter soon - I’ve been a bit lazy in my posting ever since coming down with my illness.

I’ve Fallen and I Can’t Get Up!

Yesterday Isabel was able to roll over onto her tummy. The problem is, she cannot figure out how to roll back onto her back. After struggling for a while, she starts letting out her death cry so Mom and Dad come running.

We’ll try to record this milestone and post it for you to see - can’t wait for her to be able to completely roll over.

Just Set it and Forget it

Aquarium Cradle Swing

Once again I’d like to talk about the wonders of swings. I cannot more heartily recommend the swing we use, considering it can move forward/backward and side-to-side. I’ve found that the forward/backward motion is not my fav because when the girls decide to fill their diapers, not all of it stays in the diapers due to the motion of the swing. But don’t worry, the side-to-side motion contains!

As I’ve previously mentioned, the swing has preserved our sanity just a bit because we could just “set it and forget it” - that is, the girls sleep and sleep and sleep in those things. Think of this - 5 hours of uninterrupted sleep when they are in their cribs versus 10+ hours while in the swing!

Nonetheless, I think we’re making our move towards weaning them from using the swings at night - instead, getting them more accustomed to the cribs. Plus, we have other contraptions to lull them to sleep.

I’ve learned that nothing (except for Mom and Dad) is as good as the swings. Since we’ve gone back to using the cribs, we’ve gotten a little less sleep. But does it really matter if you get 4 hours or 5?

On an unrelated note, here is a recent photo I really like:

Open House for the Girls

Open House for Isabel and Emily

On Saturday we threw an “open house” for Isabel and Emily. This was a time for all of our friends to see the girls. This was a Valentine’s Day-themed event, with the house adorned in hearts, the girls dressed up with love-inspired attire, and lots and lots of chocolate and sugary things were available to eat.

Thanks to everyone who was able to attend. Below are some photos from the event.

I Love Taxes!

Just a quick note of thankfulness. I mentioned in a previous post how the snowfall caused many branches from our pine tree to break off and fall - causing a ton of debris to litter the lawn. I only had time to cut the branches into pieces to make for easier bundling - and I was able to stack the cut logs by the road.

Well, last Thursday, the town came by and took the logs. That alone made me very excited since I planned to take off early on Friday to attempt to clear the debris. However, on top of that, on Friday Laurel called me to tell me that the town brought a truck to the house and a woodchipper and proceeded to take all of our debris!!!

I am not a fan of taxes, but this town surely does wonders for our tax dollar. We never called or asked for our debris to be picked up - they just did it. Now that is a great case for tax dollars at work!

The Angry Tree

This was the first real snowfall of the year for us. I would suspect we had between 8-1o inches. Since the temperature never dropped too low, the flakes were heavy. Unfortunately, this provided a few scares as the large pine tree in our front yard decided to allow some of its weaker branches fall to the ground.

The good news is that the house was not damaged. The bad news is that there is SO MUCH debris in our yard. Unfortunately, I do not have a chain saw, so I had to borrow a neighbor’s in order to trim the branches and make sense of the mess. Below are a few photos of the wreckage.

Amy and Paul

We had a great time yesterday and today. Uncle Paul and Aunt Amy came for a visit so they could spend time with their nieces. Too bad it was cut short on account of snow. The snapshot above (from weather.com) depicts the forecast where we live for the next 24 hours. Wow - perhaps up to 15 inches! Needless to say, since the snow is supposed to hit the east coast, Amy and Paul wisely decided to beat the snow home. However, before they left, Uncle Paul decided to get down with Isabel and have some dancing fun…enjoy!

Isabel and Mommy: Girl-talk

A few of you have been asking about Isabel and her talking prowess. So far, Emily has been the talker, but Isabel has recently been coming on strong. She radiates whenever Mommy speaks to her. Enjoy!

If They Were Boys…

We knew we were having two girls before they were born. Therefore, we were able to decorate the nursury in a girl-inspired theme. Here’s the general look…

Our Girls’ Theme

Crib

However, had we had two boys, Daddy would have chosen the theme…perhaps if there’s a next time?
