Lilypie 3rd Birthday Ticker

I LOVE You

I’m finally getting around to posting some video we’ve taken. I still struggle with keeping movies open to the public or private for only family and friend viewing. But considering family often have a difficult time viewing, please go over to YouTube to subscribe to the videos (need an account) and make sure I have you on my list of friends or family so you can see videos we’ve marked as private.

Enjoy this! Emily made us watch this one literally 30 times yesterday! She laughed every time her sister said, “I love you.”

A Child’s Imagination

Th girls are about 26 months old now, and it’s so much fun watching them play. I can only imagine what’s going on in their heads as they play pretend. I often see them playing with a “little people” house, using any of the animals and little people to create their own little home drama.

Which brings me to a wonderful Lego advertisement I came across that reminds me what it must be like to see play through my girls’ eyes. The next time we play blocks or Legos, this is what I will see:

Snow Babies

This was the girls’ first time playing in the snow. Okay, it wasn’t really playing since they didn’t move. If they did, they likely would have toppled over head first.

The Ice Storm

Well, we’ve gotten a little snow and a lot of ice over the last 2 days. One of the things I do not like about the DC area is that there rarely are good snowfalls. Although we rarely get good snow, that doesn’t stop area schools from closing simply for the threat of snow.

Once again, we didn’t really get much snow, but we did get a lot of ice. It was both beautiful and scary at the same time. The beauty was watching the icicles, seeing everything encased in glittery ice. The beauty was hearing the “clinging” of the ice-encased tree branches as they brushed up against each other - reminding me of those glass wind chimes, but this experience could be heard everywhere.

The bad was no power. We were without power all morning, then power was restored for about 5 hours. By 5 o’clock we lost power again and were wondering when we’d get power restored. So, on Valentine’s Day evening, we packed up the girls and went to Bob Evans for some warm food. It was our first warm meal of the day. After dinner, we went to a local motel to see if they had any vacancies and were pet-friendly. Sure they were pet friendly, but they didn’t have any vacancies.

The other “bad” was that we were moderately concerned for our safety. We have a very large pine tree in our front yard, and branches were falling left and right. In fact, our front yard is covered, yet our pine tree looks incredibly bare now. Needless to say, we may have to suck it up and pay to remove the tree.

The good news, however, is that after our visit to the motel, we found that our home did have power. Strange, considering that the homes just across the street had no power. Anyway, we’re safe and sound. It looks like I’ll have to invest in a chain saw so I can remove the debris this weekend.

Playing Outside

What a fantastic photo! Catch Emily’s curls and Isabel’s red hair. It’s easy to grab a big photo of this. With appropriate permissions notwithstanding, simply click this image to go to Flickr and then choose different sizes under the “additional information” label. Then choose the size of the photo you’d like to download and click download!

Note: If you are unable to choose a size or download a photo, it means either 1) you have not logged into your free Flickr account; 2) you need to register for a free Flickr account (and tell me so I can add you as a friend or family connection); or 3) you have a Flickr account and are logged in but have not been idetified by me as a family or friend. If you want to download any photo of any size and need help, let me know.

July 4th was a Bummer

On July 4th little did we know what was in store for us. For a while, we enjoyed a relaxing day at home, and we even spent some time with the girls in our new kiddie pool…

Playing in the Pool

The pool time was cut short, however, as dark clouds rolled in and storms knocked out power to the house. What a wonderful holiday - all night we were without power and the house grew to over 80 degrees inside. On top of that, fireworks shot off from 9 to 11 pm, which is wonderful when the dog barks nonstop for the entire time and the task is to get our hot sweaty girls to sleep.

The next day the power eventually came on, but the house would not warm up. Seems our 17 year old a/c unit decided to become problematic. Fortunately, the repairman was able to get it working again. Let’s just cross our fingers.

Are Sleep Habits Passed Genetically?

As a college freshman I was placed with two other roommates. Needless to say, I was and still am a relatively light sleeeper, so I had a difficult time sleeping if there was noise or light in the room. There never really was a solution to my dilemma, but I found that if I put a pillow on my face when I went to sleep, I could at least cut down on the amount of light that I could see when I tried to get to sleep.

Now, flash forward 15+ years. I still have the bad habit of sleeping with a pillow on my face. But just look at how Emily sleeps and tell me this was not passed along genetically.

I know this looks almost criminal, but believe me when I say that Mom and Dad both pull the blanket down from her face, yet she insists that she cover her face with it. Like father, like daughter.

Mattingly Likes Baby Food

Needless to say, Mattingly is happy with any “non-dog” food he can get and has been known to enjoy leftovers.

Crazy Critters

I had just finished feeding the girls when out of the corner of my eye I saw a pair of squirrels acting crazy. Mating ritual? Rabies? Who knows. I just wish I had acted sooner because there was so much funny footage I missed.
