Getting the Sympathy Gut

28 Apr, 2005  |  Written by Rob Fay  |  under Pregnancy

Now that Laurel is pregnant and starting to show, I find that our eating habits are changing. I’ve already been cashing in on the buy-one-get-one-free deal at the grocery store for a half gallon of ice cream…I’ve also been forced by a certain someone to make a midnight run for fast food.

The problem is that I am gaining sympathy weight alongside Laurel. While she has an excuse (feeding 3 people!), do I? I will plead male ego for a moment…

You see, when Laurel is having 4, 5, even 6 meals a day and then having a late night meal, the male manly man in me thinks that I should not be outdone. Sure, I can have a Big Mac meal at midnight with a bowl of ice cream nightcap. Unfortunately, the results are coming back to haunt me…

Below is an evolutionary representation of my “sympathy gut” contrasted with Laurel’s justifiably growing belly:

Rob's Gut EvolutionLaurel @ 10 Weeks

The game is guessing at which “evolutionary stage” I’m at right now. Perhaps I can take control of my gut once I complete my graduate degree???
