The Bully Birds

There was a short banter today on the TaylorList regarding birdfeeders. Laurel and I have been having problems with the “bully birds” devouring all of the seed so quickly that I must refill the feeder every other day. Since we always pull for the underdog, we were concerned that these bullies were not allowing the smaller birds their fair time at the feeder.

Uncle Jack recommended the use of “decoy predators” such as rubber snakes. Well, for some strange reason, I happened to have a rubber snake lying around. Not quite the atmosphere I wanted to add to our lush landscaped scenery (sarcasm), but I thought I’d give it a try…

Well, it looks like our little experiment failed.

Bully Bird: 1, Rubber Snake: 0.

Maybe I should drape the snake over the birdfeeder, thereby scaring away each and every bird?

The scary thing is, the rubber snake scared me when I looked out the window!
